ENTERTAINMENT ANECDOTES
KING OF ROYALTIES
ELVIS
is still the king when it comes to earning royalties, according to Forbes
magazine's 2005 top 10 earning dead celebrities list. The 'Pelvis' is still
at No.1 for the 5th straight year, generating $60 million.
Second is
Peanuts
cartoonist
Charles Schulz
with $45 million,
John Lennon
is 3rd with $29 million, and artist
Andy Warhol
4th with $21 million.
Shakespeare could have given them all a run for their money. If the bard's
heirs collected royalties on their ancestor's works, they would have received
$20 million this year.
The 2005 list also showed Hollywood's impact as
Johnny Cash
($9 million) and
Ray Charles
($7.5 million) reached the top rankings as the release or planned release of
film biographies boosted their royalty statements, but still ahead of them are
Marlon Brando
($11 million) and
Marilyn Monroe
($10 million).
